Yoga Demonstration by Mrs. Galloway's Class

Last Friday, Kindergarten through Grade 3/4 were treated to a wonderful display of both active and quiet yoga poses, told through story, by Mrs. Galloway's grade 4/5 class.

The students in Mrs. Galloway's class feel very fortunate to have received yoga instruction this year from Mrs. Brooks.  Though yoga they developed their fitness, flexibility, body and self awareness.  They learned to use breathing to relax and calm themselves. In order for the students to be successful, they needed to listen, observe and co-operate ... which they did beautifully!

Here is the story they told through movement ...

One day a group of warriors were on a journey in a boat.  The warriors found an island that was covered in forest.  The forest had a lot of different types of trees, some of them were big and others rather small.  The forest also had many types of flowers.  The warriors really liked one large flower called the "Friendship Flower". The warriors continued to explore the mountains on the island.  One day they found a very tall, majestic mountain.  On the other side of the tall mountain they saw a large flock of sparrows.  The warriors also told of many animals they found on the island.  For example there was a pack of dogs who howled at night. They had to be careful as the island had cobra snakes.  One day a warrior found a cobra egg.  The island was very popular with bees as it had so many flowers.  There was always a buzzing in the air. To celebrate their journey all the warriors came together and chanted oooaiaiaia.
